PodOmatic

A podcast is the name of a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program. Podcasts are published on the internet as MP3 files. Interested listeners are able to download these MP3 files onto their personal computer or personal MP3 player of any type The files can be listened to at the convenience of the listener. Learners can listen over and over to any material that is of interest to them. To be useful in a school setting a teacher would need internet access, a computer that can play audio files or an MP3 player.

Podcasts can be as short as two to three minutes and as long as an hour. Teachers can subscribe to a podcast through an RSS subscription (Really Simple Syndication). The advantage of this practice is that as new episodes become available they are downloaded to the computer automatically. Also, they come at no cost to the subscriber. Because podcast content is free, teachers now have a way to build up a big listening library for their students on contemporary and relevant topics. Teachers can also encourage students to download podcasts on their own so that they have more listening input.

  1. This tool can be very useful from the part of the teacher. Through using it, the teacher can have extended time in order to provide the students with extra information about topics seen in class. The lessons can also take the form of "virtual" ones, in which the teacher can cover or emphasize some topics that are very relevant for the students.

With these programs, students will also be thrilled with the idea of creating good sources of information that can be shared with other classmates.

  3. PodOmatic is another excellent advantage that we as teachers could take off from technology.

Implementing this type of tool in our lessons will enable students to record and test their speaking performance and become our English classes more joined to students’ interests since, nowadays with this so technologically-globalized-world, students’ attention is being caught by all what is technology, devices, digital, etc. therefore this is a way of maintaining them intrinsically motivated toward the English education.

Moreover, as future teachers this tool gives us the space to provide students the opportunity to get in touch with real-world materials, as they are the podcasts of radio stations which are part of our daily life; besides making pupils develop other communicative skills (oratory, investigation, voice management, express themselves clearly) and not only always focusing on their English language competences.

  5. This technological tool is really great and very useful for the development of students' listening skills as well as critical thinking, since students can give their opinion about topics they have seen in classroom. This tool permit teachers to guide students to specifics grammatical topic or theme studied in class.
    My podcast is the following:

  6. Pretty similar to voxopop.com. I personally liked it so much; as I commented in the voxopop space, padomatic gives the opportunity to practice the 4 basic skills and grammar as well. It gives the chance of expressing point of views and sharing with others at the time.
I also tried to record myself but it was impossible; technology not all the time helps, but I still think it is a wonderful tool for using in education.

  8. I was not able to create my own but I gather information about the tool and I believe that its better than a blog I mean you can share about a topic in especific but it feels more personal because you listen the voice of others and it feels like that person took time to answer you
